The aim of the Scottish Accommodation Providers Alert Scheme, (SAPAS), is to inform and warn Accommodation Providers (APs) about various scams and cons carried out against them via email, the internet, post, phone or other means.
We started in Scotland in 2003 and most of our original members are here, however membership is open to any AP in the UK and any other interested public body such as the police, trading standards, etc.
No longer are small B&Bs, Guest Houses, Hotels, Self-Catering, Holiday Parks etc. alone, because with SAPAS, members can warn each other about people who leave without paying (runners), any scams, – or suspected scams, they may have received by post or email, and any business they may find “suspicious”.
SAPAS acts as a “collecting point” for this information, which can then be relayed quickly to all members by “alert” emails. We have sections of the website where members can express their views/thoughts on various businesses (legitimate and not so legitimate), put up any scam emails they may have received, or ask for others’ opinions on something, as well as a forum. There is also a dedicated list of “runners” and “room trashers” which members can add to.
We will also attempt to investigate suspicious emails etc. on behalf of any member.
SAPAS is also used by the UK police for missing persons or police warnings.
Membership now costs £10:00 GBP per year, this gives full access to the website and “alert” emails.
Public bodies, ( such as any UK police force, trading standards, etc.), which would like to join SAPAS for the alerts or to distribute information pertaining to Accommodation Providers, please contact Ross at “admin at sapas.org.uk”
To join us, just click on “register” in the “login” box, fill in the form and press “register”. You will then be taken to a page which will inform you on methods of payment. When your payment has been received your membership will be activated and an email sent to confirm this.
Please note that SAPAS does not claim to be a trade body, union, to offer legal advice, etc. We are an “information distribution service” only, although, as stated before, we will investigate potential scams.
The above really describes what SAPAS is all about, however, if you would like something clarified before deciding to join us, or have any problems with signing up, please email admin at sapas.org.uk
Note for visitors/guests:-
If you are visiting us as a “Guest” and do not wish to join us, perhaps because you live outside the U.K., you are allowed access to part of the forum where you are welcome to post or reply to posts, however please be aware that all “guest” posts/replies are moderated, IPs are logged, and you must submit your email address.

PLEASE NOTE – After you have registered you will still NOT be able to login. Until payment is cleared you will get an “unrecognised username” or similar error.
Once payment is cleared you will receive an email and will be able to login.
